Choosing the right AC DC adapter for your laptop

To choose the right AC adapter for your needs:

1) Determine the Voltage and Current needs of your application, machine or device.

2) Choose an adapter that matches these requirement as nearly as possible.

3) Make sure the ensuring the current requirements of the load do not exceed the maximum current rating of the adapter.

4) Do not exceed the maximum input voltage of the device, machine or application.

5) Match the DC output plug size and polarity to your device.

Choosing the right adapter specs

The general rule is match the V (Voltage) and equal, so if you are choosing an AC adapter make sure you check following:

  • The adapter output V (Voltage) matches the rated input V of the device.
  • The adapter output is greater or equal to the devices A (Current).
  • The plug fits into your device and has the correct polarity.

Usually all of this info is on the adapter sticker, remember you are always looking for the output V (Voltage) and A (Current).

A AC adapter sticker with all essential info. Output is 19V, 3.42A.

Using the wrong adapter can damage your laptop

Each laptop has different voltage. Not all laptop has the same voltage or amperage. For a small laptop, the lesser voltage capacity are needed and for bigger laptop the greater the voltage capacity are needed.

This is due to each component that resides in a laptop that has a voltage level that has been devoted. If it is supplied with voltage and electric current that exceed the limit, it will damage your laptop. If less distribute voltage and electric current your laptop will not function.

As a result of using the wrong adapter

- It will damaged your laptop LCD / LED screen
- It will damaged your motherboard chipset
- It will burnt your Motherboard
- It will damage your laptop battery
